NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / On-Campus / Adcom

You are greeted with a personalize packet with items that you are interested in. Mine had a club focused on Tennis, Racket ball, and Squash. I guess they thought my interest in Badminton was close enough. And you are also “awarded” a free NYU Stern T-shirt, available in most sizes. I was then called a few minutes earlier than the scheduled time.

I think overall my interview was very friendly and conversational, and it lasted around 45 minutes like some of the others noted below. There was a lot of chitchat both before and after the formal interview as we walked from the interviewer’s office and the waiting room. One thing that surprised me was that my interviewer didn’t offer me water which I was half expecting do to all the other people talking about it here. So I made do without, although it would have been nice.

We started the conversation with my hobbies that I had mentioned at the end of my resume. Then we hoped into more of the traditional line of questions:

  • Walk me through a typical day at work?
  • Tell me about a project where you gathered support from others? And a follow up was tell me about a project where you weren’t able to gather support?
  • Name 2 things that excites me the most at Stern?
  • What happens if the industry I wanted to get into collapsed (or if there was no need for that industry anymore). I was interested in Healthcare, so my example was what would you do if we invented immortality and there wasn’t a healthcare industry.
  • How would your friends describe you if you weren’t in the room.
  • Any questions for her?
