My story is a little different, because I was invited to interview as part of the Stern Spotlight on Women event. There were ~60 of us there (I think mostly Round 1, and then a few of us Round 2s who got our applications in a few weeks early). So, as part of the day, I did my interview, then had a class and tour and roundtable event with students. So while I was greeted with a packet of information related to my interests, the tshirt came at the end of the day after it was all over.
Started like the others — talking about one of the interests listed on my resume. And we actually talked about it for a good 10 minutes because it was a hobby of my interviewer’s mom as well.
the rest of the interview was very conversational and friendly.
- tell me about what you’re doing now, and what you want to do in the future (I used an example of a recent project I was on, and the
interviewer asked me a lot of questions about it to understand what the project was on and what I did)
- How did I decide which Bschools to apply to, and why Stern (sort of a repeat of essay 2, but oh well)
- But really, why Stern? What did Stern do to stand out?
i think we got at a few of the other questions that people were asked, through the things that we were discussing, but really it was hard with so little time.
It was only 30 minutes, because that’s all the schedule for the spotlight weekend allowed — and in fact they knocked on the door for a 5 minute warning, and again when time was up, so I didn’t even really have time to ask questions (though if I had any, I am sure the interviewer would have gone over on time, to answer them). i didn’t really have time to even talk about some of the examples i had wanted to bring up based on reading the types of questions they usually ask.
I guess it didn’t matter though, because 1 week later I was accepted!
