UCLA / Anderson MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / Second-year Student / On Campus

I arrived and checked in at the admissions office with my photo ID. My interview started at my appointment time in a career center interview room. It went for 25 minutes with 15-20 minutes of me asking questions at the end. The atmosphere was relaxed and very conversational. My interviewer was taking copious notes the entire time.

Type of interview – Blind, resume-based interview with 2nd year student.

List of interview questions:

  1. Tell me about yourself.
  2. Resume-specific questions: gaps, details, etc.
  3. Short and long term goals.
  4. Describe day-to-day at recent job.
  5. Discuss what you like the most and least about recent job.
  6. Leadership style.
  7. Difficult/tricky situation with direct report.
  8. Why MBA and why are you interested in specific business subject area?
  9. Why Anderson? Followup questions on each reason.
  10. Have I done a class/campus visit?
  11. Which students/alum had I spoken with? Names?
  12. What other schools are you looking at?
  13. Questions for me?

The format and questions were fairly straight forward. I was surprised that there weren’t more behavioral/situational questions since I was definitely ready to share much more. My interviewer was quite friendly and personable, making me feel at ease, even commenting that I had clearly done my homework on the ins and outs. At the end, he shared a lot from his own experience living in LA and the Anderson community, it added to my positive impression of the school.
