The following SMU Cox interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 2 applicant.
The interview was good. The interviewer was adcom director and he made me feel very comfortable when the skype call got disconnected abruptly during the interview. It was a great experience and although I understood that he was asking questions which were kind of out of a list, but the way he said it, made it look like the questions were being asked on the go.
Type of Interview: Adcom – Application Based.
Questions asked:
- Tell me about yourself.
- Your achievements seem to convey you are great as an individual achiever but how are you as a team member ?
- Tell me a bad experience you had within a team with another team mate and how did you handle it ?
- I have experience in consulting too, and I know what you are talking about. But, how did you decide on consulting ?
- How do you plan on achieving your long term goal ?
- Tell me about an cross-cultural experience at work.
- So you keep yourself busy at work, but how do you spend your free time outside of work?
Finally, he asked if i had any questions. I wanted to know about some on-campus events and also about housing.
There were various connected questions, but the main theme was that he wanted to know about HOW and WHY I made the decisions that I did.
Surprising:
He knew a lot more about me than what the application conveyed. And as you can tell, he was able to learn a lot more using these questions.
Not Surprising:
Initial questions were the same general questions – tell me about yourself etc.
Conclusion about school:
The Cox School is great. The interviewer kept me extremely comfortable and the conversation flowed easily from one topic to another. The level of preparation of the interviewer was amazing. Having researched him myself, I knew he had a lot of experience conducting interviews, but it felt great when he knew much more about me then what my app conveyed. Great experience. I know that they offer scholarships too, and that’s something he conveyed to me too, that I would receive decision soon and that the decision may be accompanied by scholarship. All in all a great experience.
