The following is a description of the UPenn / Wharton MBA Admissions Interview Questions from a recent applicant:
I interviewed at Wharton last week, and I did both my Team Based Discussion and Healthcare interview. For the healthcare interview, since I had already spoken with June before I applied, I interviewed with a recent graduate who is helping out with healthcare admissions on a part-time basis this year. She was very friendly and the interview was very conversational. Most of the time was spent discussing healthcare topics and my current work (rather than why Wharton, career goals, etc.).
In the TBD, Everyone sat around a table and the two observers were in the corners behind the group. Everyone had nametags. The observers provided a quick overview and start – nothing new was said beyond what had already been communicated to us via e-mail. We started with introductions (name, city) and then each of us did our 1 minute pitches. Discussion followed without any input from observers. My group chose one of the actual ideas, but I heard from others that day that they made a new idea reflecting key points from other’s ideas. The session closed with us formally presenting our idea. We each did 1 minute of the final presentation.
The 1-on-1 was a full 15 minutes. Most of the time was spent discussing the TBD – “what did you think of the TBD?” “what surprised you?”, etc. Also asked, ‘tell me about yourself’ and ‘why Wharton’.
