The following Michigan / Ross MBA interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 2 applicant. Good luck to them!
The interview was blind, interviewer only had my résumé.
List of interview questions:
- Walk through résumé
- Why Ross?
- Short-term/long term goals?
- What would you like to be involved in if admitted?
- Who have you been in contact with at Ross (this is not a direct question, but a follow up question when I mentioned I had been talking to some current students)?
- 3 things on your bucket list (other I spoke to also got a “random question” similar to this)?
- Questions for interviewer?
Notes:
I went to the on-campus interview, which was a day-long event starting with the 1-on-1 interview, and followed by the group exercise, lunch with current students, and classroom visit. I was in the first group to be interviewed. I was led by a member of the Adcom to the interview room on a different floor. My interviewer was a second-year student, she was very nice and friendly. The interview was very conversational throughout. We were interrupted at the 45 minutes mark as she had another interview scheduled right afterwards. My overall feeling after the interview was that they really cared about the cultural fit–lots of time spent on “why Ross.” The rest of the day was well-organized, we were given plenty of opportunities to speak with current students and ask any questions we wanted.
The team exercise was pretty relaxed–we were broken up into teams of 6 and did a quick exercise. Two MBA students “observed” us but I did not see them taking any notes. Feedback from current students was “just don’t be a jerk and you will be fine.” There is really no way (or need) to prepare for this, just be relaxed and be yourself is the best recommendation I can give.
I would definitely recommend that applicants reach out to current students involved in the clubs you are interested in to learn more about Ross. Students I reached out to were extremely friendly and helpful, some even gave useful interview tips. Ross knows that it is competing with Booth and Kellogg in the area, so the admission committee wants to know that you are interested in attending if they admit you, as opposed to just using Ross as a “backup school”. Going to the on-campus interview instead of opting for the Alumnus or Skype interview shows commitment as well.
