The following Duke / Fuqua interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 1 applicant. Good luck to them!
I decided to interview during the open interview period and I’m glad I did. Knowing that I don’t have to wait for an invitation definitely alleviated all of the stress.
I showed up on campus at 9am and sat in the admissions waiting area with a bunch of other prospective students and a few first year student ambassadors. I was pleasantly surprised to see how friendly everyone was – it definitely made me feel very comfortable going into the interview later in the day. I attended a class, took a tour at lunch, and then interviewed at 1pm. I was fortunate to have two friends who are second-year students because I had them find out who my interviewer was so I could make a friendly connection with him when I sat down to interview.
The interview itself was extremely laid back and he was generally interested in what I had to say. It was very conversational in nature and when he did ask me a serious question about teamwork, etc., it almost seemed like he was forcing himself to ask the question because the conversation was flowing so well and he needed to have some information for his follow-up notes.
Basic Questions:
1. Walk me through your résumé.
2. Talk about your goals (post-MBA/long-term).
3. Describe a time in which you had to adapt.
4. Describe a time in which you were part of a successful team.
5. I had mentioned that I’d like to go into politics, he asked why (great connection because he does also).
6. Any questions for the interviewer.
It was all really straightforward and overall a great experience. Be sure to write a thank you note because I doubt a lot of students will do that and it could make you stand out.
Best of luck, don’t fret – it was a fun experience if you are confident in your post-MBA goals and why you want to attend Fuqua.
