NYU Stern School of Business today announced that it is establishing a new merit-based scholarship for students who demonstrate “a deep and abiding commitment to advancing women in business.” The “Advancing Women in Business” scholarships, available to incoming full-time MBA students, will cover the first year of tuition and mandatory fees. Stern expects to award $1 million in “Advancing Women in Business” scholarships to students in the Class of 2019, according to a press release announcing the new award.

The vision behind the scholarship is very much in line with the efforts and initiatives of the popular student club Stern Women in Business (SWIB). Devoted to building a supportive community focused on topics significant to women in business, SWIB counts men as well as women among its members, including on its leadership board. This is in keeping with the club’s goal of providing a forum where diverse experiences, perspectives and resources can be shared. Stern is also a member of the Forté Foundation, a consortium of top business schools and companies dedicated to directing talented women toward leadership roles in business.

Funding for the new scholarships was provided in part by the following alumnae and members of the Stern School’s Board of Overseers: Tania Ahuja (PhD ’01), Mary C. Farrell, (MBA ’76), Nomi Ghez (GSAS ‘76/ADCRT ’81), Judy Lee (BS ’88), Alison Mass (BS ‘80/MBA ’81), Ellen J. Schapps Richman (MBA ’79) and Chandrika Tandon.

We will share more details about the scholarship, including how to apply, as they become available.
