The following NYU Stern interview questions and report were submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 1 MBA applicant. Good luck to them!
I interviewed on 12/7 with a member of the admissions team. She had done a thorough review of my application, and had my resume with her during the interview. It appeared as though she had jotted down notes on my resume, and had very specific questions she wanted to ask. She was very easy to speak with, and made the behavioral interview feel very conversational. Here are the questions I was asked:
1. Why you picked your specific undergrad major?
2. Why this first career choice out of college? (I went into the military as an officer)
3. What made you want to get out? Why pick the industry that you did?
4. What would current team members say they like about working with you? What is a weakness?
5. What is it that draws you to Stern? What do you hope to learn from your classmates?
6. Let’s say your first career option post-MBA does not pan out, what is your backup plan and why?
7. Your “pick 6” essay had some very interesting choices, can you tell me which one has the most significance for you?
We were pretty short on time by the end, so I was able to ask one question, but that was it. During the interview she did not interrupt when I was speaking, and had almost no follow-up questions.
She finished up by telling me what next steps would look like, and then walked me back to the check-in area. All in all, it was a very straightforward interview and pretty relaxed. No questions caught me off guard. If you are comfortable with the application you put together, and know why you want the MBA from Stern, you will be more than prepared.
I have not found out if I have been accepted, but I will update as soon as I know.
