Why business school? Why now?
Before deciding to apply to business school I made a five-year plan for myself and one of the components was to become a strategy consultant. I love to read about global business trends and engage in complex problem solving and feel as though that career path aligns with my core strengths.
Why McDonough? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Several, but location is the primary reason. I already lived and grew up in the DMV area. Additionally, Georgetown garners a lot of prestige in the region. Regarding my choice for Georgetown, what stood out to me in particular was the global business experience. The program focuses on solving problems through a global perspective and developing the whole person. McDonough is also a part of The Consortium; a network of graduate business schools that support minorities attaining positions in the c-suite. Being a minority, enhancing the diversity within these roles is important.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2020?
My most valuable contribution is my knowledge of business strategy and analytical skills.
Fun fact that didn’t get included on your application?
I have a major sweet tooth.
Post-MBA career interests?
Strategy consulting.
Advice to current prospective applicants:
–One thing you would change or do differently?
I wouldn’t change anything. The process was challenging but beneficial due to it forcing you to be introspective. Ultimately, choose the school that fits you the best; nail the interview; everything else will work out. Business school is so fun; you learn a lot, just grind it out until the end.
What is your initial impression of McDonough’s students/culture/community?
My initial impression of the McDonough community is the appreciation for the level of diversity within the student body in regards to the student background. There’s people from the military, teachers, bankers, former pro athletes and former politicians; and everybody was a unique story to tell. Learning from each one of these individuals is fascinating.
One thing you have learned about McDonough that has surprised you?
How involved everybody is in clubs and activities.
Thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
Earning a summer internship offer from a strategy consulting firm.
Thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Building long-lasting relationships with my classmates.
