Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan MBA interview with advice:
A lot of info is provided upfront by the adcom that lets you introduce yourself to all of your fellow interviewees on a GroupMe and coordinate rides/dinner the night before on a google sheet. I think it’s probably important to participate in the discussion whether you actually go to dinner/share rides or not. We arrived and were taken to a large classroom where some of the AdCom welcomed us as we ate a light breakfast/coffee. Then were split into two groups – one interviewed while the other remained in the classroom learning about different institutes and such at Ross. I was in the group that interviewed second.
It was pretty casual with the general tell me about yourself, why Ross, why business school, and tell me about a time questions.
After we swapped and everyone was done with the 1 on 1 interview, we walked to a local pizza restaurant where we were assigned to a table with 6-7 other interviewees. Two current students at the table then explained how the team based discussion worked. You draw random cards from a pile – one is a type of company/organization (we got “rural school district”) and then you draw several descriptor words/phrases (one of ours was “investment”). You then have a short time to work with your team to develop a problem and solution using the cards you drew and present to the two current students for ~5 minutes.
Conclusion
It was pretty laid back. After that we ate pizza, met more current students, and went back to the classroom where we heard from different student groups and a professor gave us a mock class.
I was admitted with a 50k scholarship.
