My interview at Yale SOM was blind with a second year student (resume only). I interviewed in the afternoon, and before then, I was involved in the all-day activities for prospective applicants (tour, current student panel, etc.)
I arrived 15 min before my interview and was waiting with other applicants making a small talk. My interviewer picked me right on time, and walked me to the interview room.
She introduced herself and seemed to be familiar with my resume (mentioned she was impressed by projects I’ve done). Then asked me to tell me more about myself.
Questions
- Tell me about yourself
- Walk me through your resume
- Long term / short term goals
- Why MBA?
- Why Yale?
- What clubs are you interested in? How would you be involved?
- What has been your biggest professional success?
- What has been your biggest failure? How would you take lessons learned from this to the classroom?
- Tell me about the quote you picked and why? (Yale asks you to submit a quote that has a special meaning to you pre interview)
- Did you talk to current students? How did you learn about Yale?
- How will you prepare yourself for MBA?
- Anything else you wish we would cover?
After which, I had about 5 minutes to ask questions. The interview ended right at 30 minutes.
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience — the most easy going interview I’ve had (compared with Booth and Kellogg).
