Juliana Turcatel Toledo, USC Marshall MBA Class of 2021
Age: 34
Hometown: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Universidade Federal do Rio De Janeiro – Bachelors in Economics
Pre-MBA Work Experience (years, industry)
I worked for 13 years at Globo – Brazil’s dominant TV Network – in a series of Financial Planning and Analysis roles. As far back as I can remember I have always wanted to work in the Entertainment Industry. Being a Brazilian, Globo was the only company I could see myself joining.
Why business school? Why now?
I wanted more out of my career. I loved my job and the people I worked with, but I felt I needed a more holistic business strategy understanding to take my career to the next level. I am interested in pursuing a career that allows me to solve key business challenges in the entertainment industry while also leveraging my financial background.
The entertainment industry has so much data available right now and with competent analytical capabilities and industry knowledge, all this data can transform the way we produce and distribute content.
Why USC Marshall? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
My dream and longtime goal has always been to join a big Hollywood company. Hollywood is all about who you know and the Trojan family is a great place to start. While researching business schools, I heard time and time again about the strength of the Trojan network. Marshall’s ties to many companies in the entertainment industry are mostly due to a loyal alumni network. Leveraging this connection was a critical part of my decision to apply to Marshall, especially considering the difficult barriers to entry within the entertainment industry.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2021?
I believe I will able to contribute to the Marshall community in several ways. I have an analytical mindset, I am great with teamwork, and I am incredibly curious.
Fun fact that didn’t get included on your application?
If I start laughing, I just can’t stop!
Post-MBA career interests?
I want to continue working in the Entertainment Industry, but I want to be closer to content production and distribution, which will guarantee maximum reach. I truly believe that with the right content, TV and Movies can make the world a better place. I hope I can contribute to that cause.

Visit the schools you like! It is a fantastic opportunity to meet current students and get more information about the program and potential opportunities the school offers.

The GMAT, for sure! But I knew it was a necessary step, so I gave it my best and in the end got a very good score!
