Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
Attending an MBA programme has always been a strategic decision stemming from a combination of past experience and a desire for continuous growth. My initial exposure to studying abroad during my undergraduate years significantly broadened my horizons and instilled in me a passion for diverse perspectives and cross-cultural learning. Over time, as I delved into various professional areas, I recognised the potential limitations of my expertise. I identified a need to enhance and diversify my business knowledge beyond my existing domain.

With regard to timing, the decision to pursue an MBA was not immediate. Throughout my twenties, I embraced numerous exciting opportunities that I deemed essential for my career progression. However, as time progressed, I realised the necessity of prioritising an MBA, as I acknowledged that I was getting closer to a certain age range that was too old to pursue an MBA.

Why did you choose CEIBS? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Choosing CEIBS for my MBA stemmed from my desire to explore China’s significance due to its proximity to Japan and unique cultural differences, as well as China’s global influence which inspired me to seek education in this dynamic region. CEIBS stood out as the premier choice within China, renowned for its high-quality programme and people. Alumni insights affirmed CEIBS’ environment to deepen my understanding of the Chinese market whilst fostering a global perspective. CEIBS’ focus on local expertise as well as global insights perfectly aligned with my aspirations, making it the ideal institution for my MBA journey.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2025?
My contributions to CEIBS’ Class of 2025 draw from a diverse professional background spanning investment banking, management consulting, private equity, and management roles. This breadth allows me to offer valuable insights, guidance, and support to my peers, particularly in areas like interview preparation, leveraging my diverse professional journey to assist classmates in navigating various industries and roles.

Also, as one of the few Japanese students, my deep understanding of Japanese culture enriches discussions, fostering cross-cultural understanding. I aim to create an inclusive learning space that merges diverse perspectives for collective growth at CEIBS.

Apart from these on-court experiences, my previous job managing a professional basketball team got me interested in the business side of the sport, too. I found analysing trends and strategies fascinating, blending my love for basketball with business knowledge.
