Pre-MBA Work Experience (role, company, years): IT Consulting, Oracle, 6 years
Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I worked in IT consultancy at Oracle for six years, focusing on ERP systems. I wanted to learn new things and maybe change my career to a different type of consulting or help other industries go digital. I think now is a good time to use my expertise and try something different. So, I thought business school would be a great next step.
Why did you choose CEIBS?
I chose CEIBS for the unique mix of Eastern and Western business perspectives and because it would let me more deeply understand the mainland Chinese market. I was drawn to its strong community and alumni network and impressed by CEIBS’s approach to business education.
What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I wanted a school where I wouldn’t have trouble fitting in or speaking the language. I needed a place that felt comfortable but also challenged me a bit.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2025?
As someone with an ISTP personality, I bring a unique perspective to the class. I can offer support and a sense of calm to peers who may be struggling in their MBA journey. Hopefully I can cheer people up when their energy levels are low.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
In 2015, I won a ‘Big Eater’ contest, which was a fun experience that revealed my adventurous side.
Post-MBA career interests:
I am interested in healthcare and marketing strategy. These areas are good for me because of my background and what I want to do in the future.
Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Attending a coffee chat with CEIBS admissions was invaluable. It provided real insights into the MBA experience and they answered a lot of questions I had.
–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I would talk to MBA alumni earlier. Their advice is very useful.
–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
Preparing for the GMAT and writing essays at the same time was hard. I wish I had started earlier to make it less stressful.
What is your initial impression of the CEIBS students/culture/community?
I was impressed by the genuine willingness among the CEIBS community to offer selfless help to prospective candidates. It’s a very supportive community.
What is one thing you have learned about CEIBS that has surprised you?
I was surprised to learn about the Integrated China Strategy Project. It’s a great way to use what we learn in real business situations in China.
What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
I’m somewhat anxious about the challenge of changing industries or utilising my existing skills in a new function. It’s a big change, but I’m ready for it.
What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
I’m most excited about the courses and the opportunity to explore and understand the business landscape in mainland China.
