We kick off the new year in California to meet some members of the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business MBA Class of 2025 in this edition of Real Humans: MBA Students.
244 students matriculated at Haas in the fall of 2023. Women comprise 41 percent of the class and 47 percent are international, representing 39 countries. Fourteen percent of the class identify as LGBTQ+. U.S. minority students make up 47 percent of U.S. citizens and permanent residents of the class. Historically underrepresented U.S. minorities, identified as American Indian, African American, Hispanic/Latinx, or Native Hawaiian, make up 13 percent of total U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
During their undergraduate years, Berkeley Haas MBAs averaged a GPA of 3.64. The most common undergraduate degree was in engineering at 23 percent. Eighteen percent hold degrees in economics and 13 percent pursued degrees in business/commerce. Eleven percent had studied social sciences in their undergraduate years.
Before arriving to campus, Berkeley Haas MBAs accumulated an average of 5.8 years’ professional experience. Twenty-four percent of the class comes from a consulting background and 20 percent from the high-tech/electronics industry. Financial services followed at 16 percent. Six percent hail from consumer products/retail while five percent come from health/pharma/biotech roles. When it came time to take the GMAT, the class averaged a score of 733. For those who opted to take the GRE, they landed averages of 161 Verbal and 163 Quant.
