The Georgetown McDonough School of Business has announced the launch of their new Business of Health Initiative through which medical and business professionals will work together to tackle healthcare’s pressing issues.
“Student learning and career opportunities, community outreach, and thought leadership are the cornerstones of the Business of Health Initiative,” Paul Almeida, dean and William R. Berkley Chair at Georgetown McDonough, says. “We will identify new opportunities for business students to understand the dynamics of the healthcare industry while advancing research and insights to inform industry practitioners and policymakers.”
The Business of Health Initiative will be led by Sandeep Dahiya, professor of finance at McDonough and associate professor of biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology at Georgetown’s School of Medicine. He emphasized the timely necessity of the program, remarking that health and wellness are large U.S. sectors and so “remain deeply connected to the prosperity of our businesses, our communities, and our economy.” This new initiative is a chance to “address the most pressing concerns in the industry, including technological disruptions, joint healthcare ventures, price transparency, and increasing accessibility and affordability to proper care.”
With this initiative, Georgetown McDonough bolster the commitment to healthcare in their existing programs, such as the MBA Certificate in the Business of Healthcare and the MBA/MD dual degree program, expand on their multidisciplinary research, and examine the role that business plays in the healthcare industry.
The initiative is the latest in a series of partnerships forged by Georgetown McDonough between business and other industries. The school is working to build expertise at intersections that promise to tackle the tough questions of the present. Previous similar initiatives include the Business of Sustainability Initiative and the AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work Initiative.
