The MIT Sloan MBA Class of 2026 numbers 433 students, which includes the full-time MBA and dual degree LGO students. MIT notes that the class was assembled with the goal of building teams of students with a variety of skills and experience. “This diversity is critical to the MBA experience. Together, we benefit from the many perspectives our MBA and LGO students from all over the world bring to the community,” the report opens.
Diverse Demographics
The MBA class neared gender parity, with 49 percent of the students being women–a three percent increase over last year. International students comprise 40 percent of the class, representing 53 countries. The U.S. students are also a diverse group, with half identifying as minorities. Fifteen percent, down from 28 percent last year, identify as underrepresented minorities. Under federal reporting guidelines, a third identify as Asian American, 10 percent as Hispanic/Latinx, and four percent as Black/African American.

Academic and Professional Excellence
The Sloan MBA Class of 2026 boasts a wide range of undergraduate backgrounds. Twenty-nine percent had majored in engineering followed by 22 percent in business. Another 15 percent had studied economics and nine percent earned degrees in computer science. Social sciences and the humanities cover 10 percent of the new class’s undergrad studies. Their median undergraduate GPA, based on universities that use a 4.0 scale, is 3.7.

The median GMAT score of 730 is coupled with a middle 80 percent range of 690-760. For those who opted to take the GRE, the median Quant range of scores came in at 159 to 170 and Verbal range 157 to 168.

The MBA class brings an average of five years of work experience to the program. The largest cohort, at 30 percent, comes from a consulting background, followed by financial services at 21 percent. Those with experience in technology-related fields, including computers, electronics, software, internet, and telecom, comprise 20 percent of the class. Ten percent had worked in government/education/nonprofit sectors, and six percent in pharma/healthcare/biotech fields.
