Pre-MBA Work Experience:  Software Engineer, Opsera, 3.5 years

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
After nearly four years in the tech industry, I realized that to truly excel and make a significant impact, I needed to expand my skill set beyond the technical realm. My passion for leveraging data to drive decisions and engaging directly with customers on product design and feedback was the catalyst for this realization. These experiences ignited my curiosity about the broader business landscape—how market dynamics, customer insights, and strategic decisions shape successful products.

An MBA, I believed, would provide me with the tools to bridge the gap between technical expertise and business acumen, enabling me to contribute more meaningfully to product development and business strategy in the future. Having gained valuable industry experience working at a startup, I felt that now was the ideal time to pivot.

Why did you choose Carnegie Mellon Tepper? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
The Tepper School of Business was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a program that would continue to nurture my analytical background as a software engineer while providing me with a broad base of business skills so I could make a seamless pivot into product management. In a world centered around data and AI, Tepper was one of the only programs that was moving hand in hand with the times – seamlessly integrating the technical analytical skills into their entire curriculum, while also heavily focusing on the soft leadership, presentation and communication skills that any business leader today should come equipped with.

The most pivotal factor in my decision was the unique concentration and track offerings, such as “Management of Innovation and Product Development,” “AI for Business,” and “Technology Strategy and Product Management.” These courses provide an exceptional blend of breadth and depth, tailored specifically for individuals with a tech background like me.

Moreover, the opportunity to engage with the Schwartz Center for Entrepreneurship was a significant draw. Access to mentorship and collaboration with visionary leaders who are pioneering groundbreaking startups offers an invaluable experience. Learning firsthand how to launch and scale a successful venture in such an innovative environment is something I am eager to be a part of.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the CMU Tepper Class of 2026?
Having worked in both large tech companies and rapidly growing startups, I bring a unique intersectional understanding of the corporate world. My experience as the 9th employee in a fast-paced startup allowed me to gain valuable insights into the diverse perspectives and priorities of different stakeholders, equipping me with the ability to navigate and bridge various viewpoints effectively.

My work in global and multicultural teams has enriched my perspective, allowing me to approach challenges with a broader mindset. This global experience, combined with my passion for building relationships, has helped me cultivate a broad and diverse network across multiple industries. I not only enjoy expanding my own connections but also take great pleasure in connecting others and fostering collaboration within my network. This enthusiasm for bringing people together and facilitating meaningful connections is something I’m excited to contribute to the Class of 2026.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
It immensely helped me to speak to current students and alumni and learn in depth about their experience in an out of the classroom and consequently weave that knowledge throughout my application.
