Ariel Slama, Wharton MBA Class of 2026

Age: 33
Hometown: Tel Aviv
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Tel Aviv University Law School
Pre-MBA Work Experience: Attorney, with a focus on real estate. Several years of experience in the hospitality industry, managing family business projects.

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
After several years of practicing law and working in the hospitality industry, I recognized that many of the challenges faced by businesses, especially in real estate and hospitality, went beyond legal advice. I wanted to develop a deeper understanding of management, finance, and entrepreneurship to better position myself as a leader in driving innovation and growth in my family business.

Why did you choose The Wharton School? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Wharton stood out because of its strength in real estate. The depth of resources in real estate, particularly the Samuel Zell and Robert Lurie Real Estate Center, was a major draw. Additionally, Wharton’s global network and reputation for fostering entrepreneurial leadership in family-owned businesses were critical in my decision.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2026?
I bring a unique perspective shaped by my background in law, hospitality and real estate, coupled with my deep experience in family business. Having worked across different industries and countries, I can offer insights into how innovation can be harnessed within traditional structures. My legal experience gives me a unique angle in understanding the complex regulatory and strategic challenges businesses face.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I was the “best man” on two different seasons of the reality TV show “Married at First Sight.”

Post-MBA career interests:
Post-MBA, I’m looking to continue my career in real estate, particularly in acquisitions and asset management with a focus on hospitality and innovative product types. I also aim to play a leadership role in my family’s business, driving innovation and sustainable growth.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Take the time to deeply reflect on why an MBA is the right next step. Understanding your ‘Why’ not only helps with the essays but also provides clarity throughout the entire process.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I would have started preparing for the GMAT earlier. Balancing work and studying was more challenging than expected, and an earlier start would have eased that stress.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could–and what helped you get through it?
The anxiety over crafting the perfect essays. I spent a lot of time overthinking every word, but eventually, it was about being authentic. Working with peers who had gone through the process helped me get through it.

What is your initial impression of the Wharton students/culture/community?
The community is incredibly diverse, yet everyone shares a common drive and ambition to make an impact. The collaborative spirit and support among students have been especially impressive, which has made the transition much smoother.

What is one thing you have learned about Wharton that has surprised you?
The sheer number of resources and opportunities available! From clubs to leadership roles, to global experiences, Wharton has exceeded my expectations in terms of the breadth of experiences you can dive into.

What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
I’m most anxious about balancing academics, networking, and extracurriculars while also ensuring I get enough rest. The pace is fast, and I want to make sure I can manage it all effectively.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
I’m excited about connecting with the real estate community at Wharton and engaging in leadership opportunities. These experiences will allow me to immerse myself in the areas I’m passionate about and build connections that will be invaluable for my future career.
