Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now? 
After gaining extensive experience in data analytics, I realized I wanted to take a step further by developing my leadership skills and gaining a broader perspective on business strategy. With the rapid changes in technology and business models, this is the perfect moment for me to bridge the gap between technical expertise and business leadership. The MBA will equip me with the tools to drive impactful changes in the companies I work with.

Why did you choose UMD Smith? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I chose UMD Smith because of its emphasis on data-driven decision-making and innovation, areas I’m passionate about. The school’s strong network in the Washington, D.C. area and its global outlook were also key factors in my decision. Additionally, the collaborative culture at Smith aligns with my values of teamwork and continuous learning.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2026?
I believe my experience in using data analytics to drive business growth and innovation will bring a unique perspective to the class. My background in working with diverse teams across multiple industries and solving complex problems will also contribute to the collaborative environment at Smith.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I once participated in a national dance competition in Peru and performed traditional Peruvian dances. It’s a hobby that helps me stay connected to my cultural roots.

Post-MBA career interests:
I am interested in pursuing a career in business strategy and analytics, particularly in the technology or consulting sectors. I want to use my expertise to help organizations leverage data to make smarter, more strategic decisions.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
I would definitely take the time to deeply reflect on my personal and professional goals. This clarity helped me tailor my application and choose the right program for my aspirations.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I would start networking with current students and alumni earlier in the process to gain more insight into the school culture and opportunities.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
The TOEFL/ GMAT prep were challenging but setting up a consistent study schedule and joining a study group helped me stay on track.

What is your initial impression of the UMD Smith MBA students/culture/community?
The UMD Smith community is incredibly collaborative and supportive. The students and faculty genuinely care about each other’s success, and there’s a real focus on teamwork and personal growth.

What is one thing you have learned about UMD Smith that has surprised you?
I was pleasantly surprised by how much the school values work-life balance and well-being. There are so many resources available to help students manage the demands of the program while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
I am a bit anxious about balancing the rigorous academic workload with extracurricular activities and networking opportunities, but I’m confident that the structure of the program will help me manage it all.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
I’m excited to work on real-world projects and collaborate with my classmates on solving complex business problems. The hands-on learning experience is something I’m really looking forward to.
