Read what students from top MBA programs like to do during the December holidays and their advice for our readers. In the following pages, see what MBA students from Emory Goizueta and Georgetown McDonough chose in a “This or That” game.

Zion Richardson, Emory Goizueta MBA Class of 2026

What do you like most about the December holidays?
My favorite thing about the holidays is the ability to recenter and connect with family. It’s important to slow down & reflect on what’s important, especially around Christmas.

Which song is a must-have on your holiday playlist?
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” by Jackson 5 is a classic in my home!

What is your favorite holiday movie or book?
This Christmas is always good to watch around the holidays. My favorite book fluctuates by year, but my favorite book to gift this year is “The Mountain Is You” by Brianna Weist.

This or that?

Christmas PJs
Giving Gifts

Hot Chocolate
Cozy Night In

Do you have any campus community events or traditions at your school for the holidays?
Our Consortium scholarship cohort has recently developed an annual Christmas brunch that is the perfect way to conclude the semester. It’s always fun to connect with peers once classes and finals are done for the year.

Do you set New Year’s resolutions? If so, what’s one for the upcoming year?
I try to start embodying my goals around November, so that I already have positive momentum by the time January comes around. I always want to continue to build the positive habits I currently have, including exercising, reading, and writing. This upcoming year, I want to be more intentional about practicing patience, conviction within decisions, and presence. Instead of concerning myself with future outcomes or replaying past events in my head, I want to be present in every moment, regardless of what I’m doing. I also want to dive deep into learning Spanish to prepare for my 2025 travels.

Advice or well wishes for current MBA applicants:
Even though application season is among us, remember to take advantage of this time to connect with family and relax. Regardless of the round you’re applying in, understand the MBA application process is an introspective one. Lean in to the opportunity to learn more about who you are and what’s important to you. Regardless of what school you end up at, make the journey your own by being present.
