Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
After earning my undergraduate degree, I realized that while my experiences in finance, real estate, and sales provided a solid foundation, I wanted to refine my skills in people management and strategic planning and discovered an interest for a career in Human Resource Management. Business school presented the ideal opportunity to transition into Human Resources while leveraging my existing experiences. The timing felt perfect, as I could capitalize on my recent work experience and align my education with my long-term career goals.

Why did you choose Indiana Kelley? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
As an Indiana University undergraduate, I’ve always admired Kelley’s reputation for fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. Kelley’s MSM program, with its focus on leadership and hands-on practicums, stood out for its ability to blend academic rigor with practical learning. The program’s emphasis on strategic human resources perfectly aligns with my career aspirations, and the strong alumni network is an added bonus.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the class?
I bring a unique perspective from my varied professional experiences, which include training teams, negotiating contracts, and managing client relationships. My journey from finance and sales to HR has taught me the importance of adaptability, communication, and building inclusive workplace cultures—skills that I actively share with my classmates in discussions and team projects.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
A fun fact about me is that I had the incredible opportunity to be at Assembly Hall during the last time legendary coach Bob Knight made an appearance there in 2020. It was an unforgettable moment, filled with emotion and nostalgia, as fans came together to honor a pivotal figure in Indiana basketball history. Being a lifelong Hoosier, witnessing that historic event firsthand was not only surreal but also a proud reminder of the deep traditions and community spirit that make Indiana University so special.

Post-MSM career interests:
I aim to join an HR rotational program that allows me to explore diverse functions like talent acquisition, employee relations, and organizational development. My ultimate goal is to shape workplace environments that empower employees and drive organizational success.

What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Engaging with current students and faculty during the decision-making process was invaluable. Their enthusiasm and insights gave me confidence that Kelley was the right fit for me.

What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I wish I had started preparing my application materials earlier. Doing so would have allowed me more time for self-reflection and refinement, particularly with essays and recommendations.

What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
One part of the application process I was grateful to skip was the GMAT, which I was exempt from as a Kelley undergraduate student. This was incredibly beneficial, as it allowed me to focus my energy on other aspects of the application, such as crafting thoughtful essays and preparing for interviews. Skipping the GMAT not only streamlined the process but also reinforced my confidence in pursuing the MSM program at Kelley.

What is your initial impression of the Indiana Kelley students/culture/community?
From day one, Kelley’s community felt welcoming and collaborative. My cohort and peers are not only ambitious but also genuinely supportive of one another, creating an environment where everyone thrives together.

What is one thing you have learned about Indiana Kelley that has surprised you?
One thing that has surprised me about Indiana Kelley is the incredible level of collaboration and camaraderie among students. While I expected an academically rigorous environment, I was pleasantly surprised by how willing my peers are to share insights, provide support, and celebrate each other’s successes. This sense of community has made the program not only enriching academically but also deeply fulfilling on a personal level. Also, the professors are wildly impressive in their own right, creating an inspirational learning environment from their years of industry experience and expertise.
