Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I thrive on challenges, and living abroad has certainly pushed me to grow in remarkable ways. After spending over six years in Qatar, I found myself in a comfortable routine surrounded by great friends, a luxurious lifestyle, and the opportunity to travel frequently. However, I felt an inner urge to step out of this comfort zone; some questioned why I would leave such a good life, but I believe there is so much more to discover and achieve.

To deepen my knowledge and expand the skill set I developed as a transformation manager in my previous role, I decided to pursue an MBA. My primary objective at business school is to forge meaningful connections and embrace new challenges, ultimately positioning myself as a more effective leader who can inspire others.

Why did you choose INSEAD? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
My decision to attend INSEAD was significantly influenced by my manager, an alumnus of the Singapore campus. He spoke highly of his experience, emphasizing the school’s extensive network, rigorous academic programs, and the rich diversity of its student body. These factors, alongside my desire for a global perspective, made INSEAD an ideal fit for my MBA journey.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2025?
INSEAD’s commitment to diversity resonates deeply with me. Having lived in various countries, including Korea, India, Germany, and Qatar, I bring a unique perspective that I believe will enrich classroom discussions. Additionally, I have a background in the aviation industry, which I understand is not common among my peers. I am eager to share my insights on tourism, logistics, and aviation, as well as to discuss my experiences living in Qatar for over six years. My journey has been transformative, and I welcome any future classmates interested in the Middle Eastern culture and lifestyle to connect with me.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
One of my passions is collecting different types of tea. I find great joy in the ritual of brewing and savoring tea, particularly Taiwanese Oolong tea. This practice allows me to enter a Zen mode, providing a much-needed mental cleanse. I believe such rituals—be it through tea, yoga, or meditation—are essential for maintaining balance, especially for busy MBA students looking to unwind after intense study sessions.

Post-MBA career interests:
After completing my MBA at INSEAD, I intend to pursue a career in management consulting. Although I previously served as an internal consultant within an airline, I am eager to broaden my focus across various industries, including aviation, to leverage my skills in a more diverse context.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Start early! Preparing for the GMAT and managing application components can be time-consuming. Despite having a perfect schedule, it’s easy to get sidetracked by events like holidays or birthdays. Beginning the process early minimizes stress and allows for greater flexibility.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I would advise not to let fear dictate your approach to the GMAT. If you don’t achieve the score you desire, don’t be disheartened. There are various pathways to highlight your strengths beyond the GMAT, such as your essays and recommendation letters. Instead of giving up, take a moment to reflect on your performance and identify areas for improvement.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
I had an experience with the GRE exam after I was initially unsatisfied with my GMAT score. In hindsight, I believe it’s crucial to stick with one standardized test that you feel comfortable with, even though some schools accept both GMAT and GRE results. I started with the GMAT, switched to the GRE, and then reverted back to the GMAT. This indecision consumed valuable time; focusing on one exam allows you to concentrate on mastering the format and types of questions.

What is your initial impression of the INSEAD MBA students/culture/community?
I am truly impressed by the caliber of my fellow students at INSEAD. Many are young entrepreneurs who already own businesses, while others are here with the ambition to start their own. The diversity within the class is remarkable, and it’s inspiring to see so many brilliant individuals eager to contribute their unique backgrounds and experiences.

What is one thing you have learned about INSEAD that has surprised you?
I was surprised to discover INSEAD’s strong commitment to sustainability. The school encourages the use of personal mugs and cups, and both the bar and cafeteria have eliminated single-use plastics. It’s encouraging to see how much effort the institution puts into promoting environmentally conscious practices.

What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
I have some anxiety regarding the recruitment process. Many students, including myself, are at INSEAD seeking better career opportunities. Although classes have just begun, I am already on the lookout for open positions. Fortunately, INSEAD offers numerous career events, and I am eager to leverage these opportunities to secure a position after graduation.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
I am especially excited about meeting new people and building meaningful connections. While obtaining an MBA is not the only path to achieving one’s dreams, I believe that this experience offers a unique opportunity to connect with other ambitious individuals who aspire to be leaders. The return on investment from an MBA is not solely measured in salary, but also in the invaluable relationships and networks fostered during the program. Building these connections is truly a valuable aspect of the journey.
