Why did you pursue an MBA?
Career advancement opportunities and having the ability to study and work internationally with exceptional classmates and colleagues were among the most important reasons for me to pursue an MBA
Why did you choose Dartmouth Tuck for your MBA? What factors figured most prominently into your decision?
Visiting Tuck in person twice reinforced my decision to attend. First, I visited during the admission process to interview in person and get to know the school, students, faculty and staff first-hand. Later, I had another opportunity to visit with who is now my wife to experience what it was like to live there as a couple. Both times, the Tuck community shone through and proved that it is second to none. Students and staff made it their point to genuinely get to know my wife and I, and answered all of our questions about living in the Upper Valley. Even though I was just a prospective student at the time, I really felt like I was part of the community already. Additionally, given Tuck’s location, almost everyone has to relocate and is eager to know everyone and their surroundings during the 2 years they are studying at Tuck. This was also a key factor for me, as I was moving from Spain and didn’t really know anyone at the time other than my fiancée. Everyone else was in a similar situation, which made it very easy to get to know each other.
Why have you pursued a career in healthcare?
Purpose and impact. My team at CVS is focused on driving adherence to medication, ensuring that our patients take their prescriptions on time, and as prescribed by their doctor. Given the scale of CVS, I can confidently say that the adherence driving initiatives I work on lead to improving people’s health and create a positive impact in our society.
What offerings at Tuck, specifically, supported your healthcare career? And how did they do so?
Courses around communications and leadership. More specifically, Management Communications and Leadership Development. I didn’t have much experience in leadership or communications prior to Tuck, neither academically or professionally. These areas have proven to be the most important if you are interested in becoming a leader in your field, and these courses were immensely helpful to prepare me to work in the corporate world in the US as an intern and full time employee. To this day, I still apply lessons from these courses in my day to day job, when I’m leading teams or projects, or when I am preparing for an important presentation to my leaders and peers.
What advice do you have for prospective MBAs considering MBA programs and entering the healthcare space?
Reach out, connect, and ask questions. Tuck will undoubtedly respond and give you the tools and information to make the best decision for your personal career journey.
