Logan Thompson, ASU Carey Online MBA Class of 2026

Age: 36
Hometown: Jarrell, Texas
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Baylor University – Bachelors of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Pre-MBA Work Experience: U.S. Army – 12 Years – Highest position achieved was essentially Head Nurse of a nursing ward. I was in charge of about 30-40 military and civilian personnel, supply requisitions, and scheduling etc.

Why did you make the decision to attend business school?
My wife owns a photography business, and I wanted to help elevate her potential. Additionally, I wanted to enhance my own potential as an engineer in the electric power industry.

Why did you choose ASU Carey? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I chose Carey because of its reputation, the flexibility of taking online classes while working full-time, and the opportunity to pursue a Master’s in Electrical Engineering simultaneously. This dual-degree option requires fewer credits than if I pursued each degree separately.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to your graduating class?
I bring a wide range of experiences that allow me to approach situations from multiple perspectives.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
During my time in the military, I was stationed in Hawaii, where I surfed almost every day. There’s nothing quite like that feeling. I hope to return someday soon.

Post-MBA career interests:
Supporting my wife’s business and advancing in my own career within the electric power industry.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Networking, networking, networking. You can be the brightest student on the planet, but at the end of the day, a strong letter of recommendation holds significant weight.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I’m satisfied with my choice of ASU, but I do wish I had taken more time to explore all available options.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
For me, it was the GRE, and I did skip it. Fortunately, it was optional for the application.

What is your initial impression of the ASU Carey students/culture/community?
Friendly and dedicated to learning.

What is one thing you have learned about ASU Carey that has surprised you?
They offer numerous community events, such as dinners, which even online students are invited to attend.

What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
Managing my busy schedule.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Learning new things!
