Chenyue Yuan, HEC Paris MBA Class of 2026

Age: 36
Hometown: Shanghai, China
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, B.A. in Communication/University of Southern California & London School of Economics and Political Science, MSc and M.A. in Global Media and Communications.
Pre-MBA Work Experience: Executive Producer of a media group in China. I have about 11 years of experience in the media industry, developing video series tailored to global broadcasters and social media platforms.

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I am eager to redirect my career path that was once disrupted. Having to abandon my MBA offers four years ago in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak with its great uncertainties, my desire to obtain an MBA has not diminished. Also, my experience with online video production has sparked questions about the gap between what producers offer and what consumers actually yearn for. I felt more motivated than ever to reignite my MBA ambition.

Why did you choose HEC Paris? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
The MBA program at HEC Paris is always on my mind because of its outstanding resources in both academics and practice. I was thrilled to find the program aligns with my enthusiasm for exploring business through multiculturalism and user-driven approaches. Moreover, HEC’s strong ties with luxury brands and marketing experts are a major draw for me.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2026?
I think my diverse educational background and cross-cultural work experience will bring a valuable contribution to the program, enhancing its cultural diversity and bolstering team dynamics. Also, my previous work experience in a newsroom has taught me to be attuned to the emotions of my coworkers and to be readily available to offer support when needed.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I have a passion for Disney, especially for LinaBell, a character that was first launched at Shanghai Disneyland.

Post-MBA career interests:
Marketing or branding
