Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
After an unsuccessful attempt to continue oncological research through a PhD program, I realized I wanted to break away from traditional career paths and pursue the startup route. With a strong foundation in theoretical and technical disciplines, I sought a program that combined advanced analytics with real-world applications. As the business landscape rapidly evolves, I recognized the need to refine my leadership skills, enhance data-driven decision-making, and apply strategic operational frameworks to build and scale impactful ventures. Carnegie Mellon’s PT MSBA provided the perfect balance — offering the technical rigor and practical insights I needed while allowing me to sustain my entrepreneurial momentum.

Why did you choose Carnegie Mellon Tepper? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business is one of the most technical MSBA programs, uniquely designed to support individuals who thrive in highly analytical environments. I wanted a program that would push me to master both the quantitative and strategic aspects of business while reinforcing a work-life balance. The Tepper School’s emphasis on data-informed decision-making, its strong reputation in AI and machine learning applications, and its flexible, part-time format made it a perfect fit for my goals. I was particularly impressed by the program’s ability to accommodate working professionals without sacrificing the rigor of the curriculum.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the class?
As the youngest student in this cohort, I bring a unique perspective on modern applications of technology in business. Spending my first two years of undergrad during the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated my ability to self-learn, giving me the time and flexibility to develop a broader skill set beyond traditional coursework. This led me to dive deep into emerging fields like quantum machine learning, biotech innovation, and AI-driven analytics, allowing me to integrate cutting-edge technologies into real-world applications. Combined with my academic experience in research, I offer fresh insights into analytics, data science, and business strategy, fostering dynamic discussions with peers from diverse backgrounds.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
Culinary arts, patisserie, tea, coffee, and mixology are some of my simple pleasures in life! I love exploring different cultures through food and experimenting with unique flavors—whether it’s crafting a new fusion omakase, perfecting a new dessert recipe, or applying the chemistry behind mixology and gastronomy. Curated in Irvine, CA, is my seasonal omakase and fusion of flavors. With only eight seats available per night, The Eighth Enclave offers a monthly, intimate luxury dining experience where tapas, omakase, and symphony flights are paired with exclusive entertainment, creating an unforgettable evening of culinary artistry.

Post-MSBA career interests:
I aim to leverage my expertise in analytics, AI, machine learning, and operations to drive innovation in biotech, quantum computing, and SaaS-based predictive analytics. My long-term vision is to develop scalable, cutting-edge solutions that transform healthcare while simultaneously curating unforgettable culinary experiences that blend artistry with innovation.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
I would absolutely emphasize how the Tepper School aligns with your career goals—and, just as importantly, how you align with the Tepper School’s mission. The application process isn’t just about showcasing achievements; it’s about articulating how the university can support your ambitions and how you, in turn, can contribute to the Tepper School community. Demonstrating this mutual fit is key to a compelling and well-rounded application.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I would apply before the last round to feel more secure in my application. Earlier applications provide more time for financial planning, networking with faculty and students, and mentally preparing for the transition.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
I wish I could skip the video! I’m more comfortable talking to a real person rather than a screen, and the remote interview process helped alleviate some of that discomfort. To ensure I submitted the best take, I used both takes and prepared solid talking points in advance.

–How has the program’s flexibility enabled you to pursue your personal and professional goals without compromising your work-life balance?
As the Founder & CEO of NEXQ, my workweeks often range from 60 to 80 hours, making flexibility essential. The ability to attend night classes while running errands or preparing dinner has been a game-changer. The availability of recorded lectures and asynchronous coursework enables me to reinforce my learning at my own pace, especially during high-demand weeks that involve travel. This structure has allowed me to expand my team, refine our algorithms, and establish partnerships with renowned institutions—all without compromising my productivity.

–How do you manage to balance the demands of the program with your professional responsibilities, and what strategies have worked best for you?
Time management and disciplined scheduling are crucial to balancing a rigorous academic program with the demands of running a business. I prioritize tasks based on urgency and strategically schedule focused study sessions around peak work hours. Leveraging the Tepper School’s asynchronous learning structure—especially recorded lectures—allows me to integrate coursework into my existing workflow efficiently. Taking short, intentional breaks has also been essential in maintaining long-term productivity and preventing burnout.

–How has the online format of the program allowed you to immediately apply what you’re learning to your current role and advance your career?
The online format has been incredibly effective in allowing me to integrate new knowledge directly into my work at NEXQ. For example, courses in predictive modeling and financial analytics have helped refine our market forecasting algorithms. Concepts from strategic business operations have directly influenced decisions about scaling and optimizing workflows. The program’s real-world applications ensure that I’m not just learning passively but actively transforming my business practices in real-time.

–Despite being in a remote program, how have you built meaningful connections with peers, faculty, or mentors, and how has this sense of community enriched your experience?
Building meaningful connections in a remote setting requires intentional effort, but the Tepper School community makes it seamless. Engaging in discussion forums and WhatsApp groups has been an excellent way to stay connected and exchange insights with peers. Collaborating on case studies and assignments has provided the opportunity to work alongside professionals from diverse backgrounds, all striving toward a common goal. Faculty and mentors are highly approachable and open to conversations outside of class, while Tepper School alumni are incredibly welcoming and eager to connect on LinkedIn, fostering a strong professional network.

Despite the remote nature of the program, the strong sense of community and support has been invaluable in my journey.

–What is one thing you have learned about Carnegie Mellon Tepper that has surprised you?
I was surprised by how well-structured the program is for busy professionals. The level of organization, accessibility of faculty, and strong support system exceeded my expectations. Additionally, I didn’t anticipate just how diverse the cohort would be—not just in terms of backgrounds but also in terms of industry expertise and perspectives. The level of collaboration and engagement in the online format is something I initially questioned, but it has been incredibly seamless and rewarding.
