Kellogg MBA Admissions Interview Questions: R1 (Accepted) / Alumni

I had my interview with an alum whose contact was provided by adcom. I requested the alum to schedule an interview during weekends if possible and he was very accomodating about the same. We met on a Saturday at a Starbucks close to his house. He was a 2005 graduate and had been on the admissions.

However this was his first experience interviewing an applicant. Following were the questions asked:

  • Take me through your resume starting with your choice of undergraduate college and elaborate on the career choices you have made so far?
  • What are your goals and why Kellogg?
  • At Kellogg, students take pride in their committment to the community. How do you plan to get involved?
  • What role do you play in a team?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • I have worked for the same company for about 4 years and he asked me to discuss how my role has evolved and what is the difference between what I was doing when I started and my current role.
  • I had lived in Chicago for a year and we discussed my visit to the schools and the classes I attended. He asked me to describe my impressions of the faculty and student community.
  • He then moved on to discuss trends in my industry and what are the future challenges and opportunities? This was a good discussion and we often bounced ideas against each other. He displayed a lot of interest in what I had to say and often chimed in.
  • Any questions for him? I asked him 3 or 4 questions about school, what he enjoyed and didn’t. His answers were very elaborate and often animated. It was good to get him going.

Whole interview lasted for about an hour, though it was more like a chilled out conversation.
