Wharton MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Healthcare Management + Second-year Student / On Campus

I had two interviews, one with the Healthcare Management Program and a general one.

1) The healthcare on was totally conversational and laid back. It felt like a seamless flow of interview questions directed at me and selling Wharton to me. It started off with small talk, then a few questions:

  • Why MBA? From your essay, I understand that your long term goal is xxx, how will the MBA help you? Asked a few more questions specific to my background (where else applying). Also discussed specifics to the industry I want to work in (healthcare in emerging markets).
  • What are you thinking for your summer internship?
  • What makes you competitive for our program?

2) Very cut and dry compared to HCM interview, which is about dreams and passions. My interviewer was an international 2nd yr student in a different industry. I had a hard time reading him.

  • Intro: walk me through your resume. I wish I had interjected long-term goals and Why MBA here….but he never specifically asked so I brought it up at the end during my questions when I realized that.
  • Tell me about a time when you led a team and it failed. How did that teammate initially react?
  • Tell me about a time that you managed someone more experienced or older than you. How did that person react to you?
  • Tell me about a time that your opinion was challenged and you had to defend yourself. Did they accept it?
  • Ended with my questions for him
