I opted to do an on-campus interview and scheduled it for early November. Kellogg is my top choice program and I thought that taking the time to go there and interview in person with the adcom or a student would help prove my interest. Moreover, it would give me a chance to meet students and tour the campus. I don’t regret my decision to pick this option. I purposefully scheduled my interview for a Tuesday (no classes on Wednesday) so that I could spend Monday doing the class visit, building tour, etc. Doing this came in handy when my interviewer asked me when I arrived and if I had a chance to partake in these activities.
I arrived at the admissions office about 15 minutes early. In addition to handing over a copy of my resume, I had to fill out a sheet of paper asking me about my career goals and intended majors. My interviewer, a part-time member of the adcom, came out to the reception area at my scheduled time and was very friendly. This put me at ease. Here are the some of the questions I remember:
- Tell me why you picked X for undergrad.
- Specific questions about my career since undergrad. Clarifications about my work history.
- What do you consider your greatest achievement from X position (from resume)?
- What would your coworkers say are your strengths?
- What would your coworkers say are your weaknesses?
- Follow up: Give an example of a time that you exhibited X weakness?
- What are your career goals?
- Why [your post-MBA industry)?
- How would you contribute to Kellogg?
- Time for questions
The interview ran exactly 45 minutes. Overall, a positive experience!
