We know that many of you are still in the throes of Round 2, whether you’re interviewing, awaiting a decision or—as in some cases at some schools—still holding out for an interview invitation. The waiting is hard at any stage—we wish you patience, strength and hope!
But for other Round 2 applicants, it’s already time to celebrate. We’ve seen reports of Round 2 acceptances from close to 200 of you to places including Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, INSEAD, Oxford’s Said Business School, UNC’s Kenan-Flagler, UCLA Anderson and NYU Stern, among others. Just within the last few hours there’s been a flurry of submissions from triumphant applicants to Emory’s Goizueta Business School. Congrats to you all!
Alas, a healthy chunk of you have shared rejection, too. We’ve clocked close to 400 reports of “release” from consideration so far in Round 2. Bummer. As some small consolation, you should know that the average GPA of those reporting rejection so far is an entirely respectable 3.46 and the average GMAT score is a not-too-shabby 713. So you are in good company.
Parsing the Data
Whether you’re still waiting, already celebrating or resigned to commiserating, we thought you might be interested in some of the other findings revealed by the LiveWire Round 2 data submitted thus far. For starters, let’s dig into the stats of those of you who scored invitations to interview at some of the schools where decisions are still pending.
The average GPA of those reporting invitations to interview at Harvard Business School (HBS) is 3.82, and the average GMAT score is 735—just to give you a sense of what you’re up against. By comparison, applicants who reported Round 2 rejections at HBS without an interview had an average GPA of 3.5 and an average GMAT score of 721. And for what it’s worth, those rejected without an interview by HBS in Round 2 outnumbered those invited to interview by a ratio of 3.5 to 1.
At the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, the average GPA of interview invitees is 3.57 and the average GMAT score is 732. Of those rejected without an interview invitation, the averages were not very far off those of interview invitees, at 3.53 and 724, respectively. Likewise, those reporting rejection without an interview by Wharton in Round 2 were very close in number to those reporting an invitation to interview—the ratio was 1.1 to 1.
At Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB), the average GPA of interview invitees is 3.64, and the average GMAT score is 720. So far, no one on MBA LiveWire has reported a rejection from the Palo Alto school.
As with all of our LiveWire analysis, we should note that our sample size is small and likely subject to some response bias.
