The official University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business Class of 2019 profile reveals that this year’s incoming class is the school’s most academically successful class yet, as well as one of its most diverse.
The incoming full-time MBA Class of 2019 is made up of 422 students, 43 percent of whom are women—3 percent more than last year. And these students performed well on their GMAT—achieving the highest average GMAT score ever at 716 (an 8-point jump from the previous record set last year). Overall, 80 percent of the class scored between 670 and 760.
This year, Michigan Ross also accepted one of its most diverse MBA classes yet, one that includes 23 percent underrepresented minority students. This is a 14-year high for the school and a staggering 13 percent increase over last year (Note: This year’s underrepresented minority student calculation included Asian Americans for the first time.)
International enrollment was also slightly up this year. Students from outside the United States made up 34 percent of the incoming class and were drawn from 45 different countries (including dual citizenship); yet another record for Michigan Ross. Last year, international students made up just 31 percent of the class and came to Ross from 33 countries.
The MBA students also come from a wide range of backgrounds. In fact, the Class of 2019 is fairly evenly divided between undergraduate majors in economics/business, at 36 percent; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), at 32 percent; and humanities, at 32 percent.
The Success of the Michigan Ross Class
This year was also the first year that Michigan Ross began to collect success stories and accomplishments for its students and alumni. Over the last six months, the school collected more than 60 stories. Among these stories, you’ll read about:
