Wharton, INSEAD Renew Strategic Alliance Through June 2021
Wharton and INSEAD, two of the most esteemed business schools in the world, recently announced a renewal of their strategic alliance through June 2021.
The Wharton-INSEAD partnership was originally established in 2001 when the two management education titans combined resources to “cultivate market leaders [and] contribute towards global business research and education for businesses and communities worldwide” across campuses in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Beijing, Fontainebleau, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi.
The alliance presents opportunities for student and faculty exchanges across campuses, collaborative research and teaching activities, and collaborations in doctoral education.
INSEAD Dean Ilian Mihov writes, “The INSEAD-Wharton Alliance is a shining example of how we use partnerships to remain true to our principles and deliver a truly transformative education experience—something no single school can provide.”
Wharton Dean Geoffrey Garrett adds, “Wharton is committed to achieving and maintaining a global footprint. The Wharton-INSEAD Alliance is an important conduit for Wharton to achieve its global ambitions by further connecting us to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.”

INSEAD Tackles Blockchain With New Professor, Partnership
INSEAD recently appointed leading “digital thinker” Don Tapscott as adjunct professor of technology and operations management. As part of the deal, INSEAD has also signed a two-year partnership with Tapscott’s think tank, the Blockchain Research Institute, to “advance research on the evolving blockchain technology and its impact on business and society.”
“Blockchain represents nothing less than the second era of the internet, but to fully realise its potential we need to make sure business leaders are educated about its strategic implications,” Tapscott writes. “That was what motivated us to start the BRI, and it’s why I look forward to working with INSEAD as they educate the global business leaders of tomorrow.”

$1 Million Grant Will Support Two Georgetown Institutes’ Exploration of Women’s Issues and Women’s Economic Mobility
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $1 million grant to the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) and the Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) at the McDonough School of Business.
According to the article, the first phase of GIWPS’s research will “focus on successful interventions to increase women’s economic empowerment in conflict-affected nations.”
“There are a growing number of fragile states in the world. Women’s economic empowerment is an issue of utmost importance because it is critical for economic viability, political stability, and peace and security,” writes Melanne Verveer, GIWPS’s ambassador and executive director.
She adds, “This important research will fill a critical need by contributing to what we know about creating economic opportunity and improving conditions for women.”

UCLA Anderson Founders Bootcamp Awards $550K to High Schoolers for App to Make Social Media Safer
Founders Bootcamp, a venture studio that UCLA Anderson operates to support the entrepreneurial efforts of high school founders, gave $550,000 in seed funding to the Santa Monica-based Trill Project, a social media network geared toward LGBTQ+ teens where anonymous users and moderators can express themselves. The eight-week accelerator for high school entrepreneurs is run out of Anderson’s Cross-Campus space.
According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Business Journal, Trill ensures anonymity by “assigning random usernames based on colors users pick when they enter the iOS app. Additionally, the use of a Tor framework, machine learning algorithms, and 50 assigned moderators (who are also users) screen the posts to weed out safety violations.” Trill has been downloaded 10,000 since its launch on the Apple App Store in June 2018.
Richard Dahan, who founded Founders Bootcamp, writes, “We are discovering and empowering the next group of audacious, rule-shattering, world-changing entrepreneurs; teens who are purpose built to inspire epic growth, drive radical new ideas and who are prepared to solve some really big global problems.”
