Been listening for a few months starting from the 1st episode and working my way through. I'm a civil engineer for a large state Department of Transportation from a T15 US engineering school. Been with company for almost 3 years and will have a little over 4 years when matriculating. Plan to apply R1 and R2 2022 this fall. Currently in rotation program. Lots of well rounded, technical, and project management, stakeholder, public engagement, change management, and leadership experience. Spearheaded a 1st ever Future of Mobility 101 presentations across the agency and presented to young engineers and senior directors (not C-suite). Currently president of our young engineer group within the organization and am leading the charge to change our training program for our young engineers. Because I'm work for the gov, I'm more well rounded than most engineers and I have a lot of non-technical skills since I deal with a lot of stakeholders and the public. I'm also a first gen, low income, immigrant (came to US at 5), and LGBTQ+ (but not a big part of my identity). Post MBA goal is to do consulting for a few years and exit into the Future of Mobility industry. I understand that industry very well right now from the infrastructure side of things. Need an MBA to gain fundamental skills to pivot to that industry towards the tech/business side into an operations/strategy role. Probably not product management. Would love to be featured. Wondering about a few things. 1. Does being a 1st gen/low income/immigrant matter that much? 2. Does being a government engineer lump me more into the government instead? 3. I know the industry that I want to exit to post-consulting and know a few people in those companies like Waymo, Nuro, Cruise, Zoox, etc. How much does this play a role in my story?
P.S. As someone who knows no one doing an MBA and from a non-traditional background, this podcast is absolutely amazing - and it's free!
