Demographics:
Asian-American first generation, low income background; straight female; will be 28 or 29 upon matriculation. Born and raised in PA.
Education:
Undergrad top 50 US university; graduated with a double major in both Finance and Economics (B.S.) I received a 3.47 GPA (honors) and am open to taking additional pre MBA courses.
Work experience:
Completed an incubator / startup internship in college (sponsored by my school) during summer of freshman year + an accounting/finance internship at a lighting fixtures company sophomore year + a risk advisory internship at Big 4 junior year
Started my career at big 4 upon graduation - (got into Big 4 leadership program sophomore year > internship junior year > full time offer post graduation). At Big 4, I transferred practices (from Risk Advisory to management consulting) then got promoted to Senior from Consultant after ~2 years within the Program Management consulting organization & dabbled in customer strategy consulting work). I stayed at Big 4 for 3 years total before moving to my current firm - Oliver Wyman. My current role at OW = generalist strategy senior consultant - where I perform a good balance of quantitative and qualitative work (e.g., helping clients create, evaluate, and select new business opportunities for their growth strategy, building models (TAM, digital-based capacity analysis), + other work reviewed and presented to c-suite clients). I'll likely apply for my company's MBA sponsorship program after my 3rd year at OW (requiring me to work at OW for 3 more years upon graduation).
Extra curriculars:
During college: VP of Marketing then President of pan-Asian professional business club, worked part time jobs through work study on and off all 4 years, fundraising chair of honors fraternity, economics honor society member
During Big 4: Co-strategic chair of pan asian professional network (working with partners, senior managers - I was only a consultant when I got this position!); east region co-lead for my practice's women in business organization
Outside of work:
- founder & president of case study club with over 40 members, >16 admits to MBB and T2 firms (members from M7 business school programs)
- co-founder & co-captain of squash club at Oliver Wyman
- previously a committee member for first generation student volunteering network
- member of Philadelphia then New York Junior League
I would love to know what target schools you guys think I should aim for! I'm interested in Entrepreneurship + staying in consulting post MBA but am still undecided. Haven't take any practice tests in GMAT / GRE yet (I will say I'm naturally stronger with verbal vs. quant). What GMAT / GRE score should I aim for to get into M7? Should I take the GRE over the GMAT? Anything else to make my profile stronger?
Additional comments:
Love the Clear Admit podcasts @Alex & Graham - I've been listening to them now that I'm starting my MBA process and they're incredibly motivating and exciting! GREAT WORK!
Thank you for helping me out! Looking forward to hearing back.
