Born and raised in Peru (dual citizenship with US), attended high school and college in the US. Studied Finance at a Big Ten school (top 50 nationally, top 25 in undergrad business).
Worked at Fannie Mae in a finance role out of college (was on the CFA track, passed level 1), then launched a real estate investment platform because I wanted to get closer to the "asset (tangible) side" of real estate. I then was persuaded to join a small real estate investment firm with a focus on community impact in marginalized areas, based in Los Angeles.
After a couple years there, I wanted to reconnect with my roots in Peru and establish a professional presence there, so I moved for a year and worked in office leasing in a role with a high degree of responsibility (directly managing important client relationships).
After accomplishing what I set out to do, I moved to New York in order to pursue a path in real estate finance/investment, which is where I see my career long path. I work in real estate capital markets advisory in a small, non name-brand company but have been promoted and have some oversight responsibility for a couple team members and run several products on my own.
I want to pursue an MBA to pivot into the investment management or private equity side of the real estate business, with a possible intermediary step in investment banking. Down the road, my goal is to raise an investment fund focused on Peru/LatAm, with a view to bringing foreign capital to improve the very precarious housing situation many face in those countries.
Also, it's worth noting that I am pursuing a master's degree right now in real estate investment in NYC, which I would complete before enrolling. I am very active in the program (magazine editor, leader in student investment fund, took a case study team to the final round, etc) and have a 4.0 GPA in the program so far.
Finally, I am passionate about architecture (big reason I enjoy real estate), and have for several years been working on a project to track and photograph all Art Deco architecture around the world (2000+ entries, 8000+ photos), with an active social media presence. Also, love sports and have been playing in Sunday soccer leagues for years.
Am targeting 320+ on the GRE, ideally 325+. Would love to understand more as to where I fit as a candidate, potentially for an M7 program.
