CBS ($$$), Haas ($$$$), Kellogg ($$) or Wharton. Moving to LA post-MBA. Wife went to CBS so I already experienced it as a “Better Half.” Option to get sponsorship from my non-MBB firm, but want to pivot to VC. Is the “brand / prestige” of Wharton for VC is worth turning down other scholarships?

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1676 It might be, especially for VC, but I’ll let others comment on that. Also consider the MBA experience itself, and the large network you’d be joining. How active is Wharton’s network in LA, for example. (1)

Likes Earned: 1235 If you are truly set on getting into venture capital, I'd take a look at the leading VC firms in the Los Angeles area (which, for the record is a probably the third best VC city in the USA behind SF and NYC). See how many alums are present from the schools you are considering. That may give you some sense of things.

Wharton is definitely aided by the WhartonWest campus, large network, and presence in the VC world, but I'd think Berkeley - with that incredibly generous scholarship - has to be worth a serious look as well. If your spouse went to CBS, you might argue that you already have access to that network...but perhaps you would both be excited to stay in New York a bit longer? Not an easy decision... While Wharton is great, Haas with a large scholarship is a tempting option given its strong ties to the West Coast venture community. I suggest that you do your due diligence by chatting with both Haas and Wharton students pursuing a VC career path. (0)
