Question about All Schools

I’m an entrepreneur that’s looking at maybe taking some MBAs. Schools keep reaching out. Is it safe to assume that those that go to Harvard and Stanford are significantly smarter than those at the other programs?

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1693 No. I wouldn’t use the word “significantly” smarter. Their median “smartness” might be slightly higher than the next tier, but the variance will mean there will be smarter people at those programs than some folks at HS, etc.

And how do you define “smart”?

HBS and Stanford GSB students are certainly smart and often post amazing counting stats (GMAT, GRE, GPA), but it's important to remember that all of the top MBA programs in the world are highly selective - routinely assembling classes with incredibly talented individuals. In short, saying that HBS and Stanford are "significantly" smarter than those at other programs feels like a major overstatement.

Also, as Alex pointed out, the word "smart" itself can be defined in a variety of ways...

I'd encourage you to connect with some graduates of HBS, Stanford and other leading schools to see what these folks have to say about earning the degree, and to better understand the caliber of individual who attends a top program - even if it's not Harvard or Stanford.
