For the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, the MBA Class of 2024 demonstrates the school’s strengths in the face of economic challenges. The MBA employment report showcases the achievements of this year’s 221 graduates, with 86 percent of those seeking employment receiving a job offer within three months of graduation and 85 percent accepting positions. The reported average base salary for the class is $151,178, and the mean signing bonus is $31,003.

Seventy-eight percent of the 2024 MBAs sourced their job offers through school-facilitated resources. 

Stefani Sereboff, Senior Assistant Dean of McCombs Career Management and Corporate Relations, wrote in the school’s report, “The wide array of industries and job functions demonstrate the resilience of the McCombs MBA in a rapidly evolving job market, and the increased number of graduates pursuing a variety of career paths demonstrates that the McCombs MBA effectively equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in finding fulfilling and challenging roles.”

Industry Placement and Average Base Salaries

Although consulting recruitment declined significantly — from 43 percent of the Class in 2023 to 30 percent — it remains the number one sector for McCombs MBAs, with an average base salary of $172,556. Tech industry jobs overtook finance, attracting 22 percent of graduates vs. 17 percent for finance. The average base salary in tech landed at $137,777 while finance jobs reported a $158,000 average base salary. Six percent of the class went into the energy sector, and five percent into the retail industry.

U.S. Regional Placement

By virtue of its location, the majority of McCombs MBA graduates remain in the Southwest for their careers, and this year, that majority was 66% of the class. They reported an average base salary of $150,000 for the region. The Western U.S. became home to 14 percent of graduates, and the Northeast eight percent.
