Hi everyone, I feel really fortunate to be in this position. After much consideration I am now between UNC Kenan-Flagler and Duke.

I'm an international student with post-MBA goals to pivot into consulting. I have 5 years of experience in market research and data analytics, working closely with consulting teams.

eliot Verified User. Likes Earned: 1947 Congrats on your acceptances and scholarships to five top MBA Programs. Well done. You mention that you are deciding between Fuqua ($80k) and Kenan Flagler ($150k). Given your interest in consulting, let's review consulting placement stats.

Consulting Placement: According to the 2024 career reports, among 2024 MBA graduates seeking employment and accepting jobs 21.3% (37) from Kenan Flagler accepted consulting jobs as compared to 38.7% (108) from Fuqua accepting consulting jobs. Meaning, Fuqua places both a higher percentage and more graduates into consulting than Kenan Flagler does.

Fuqua also publishes their McKinsey/Bain/BCG (MBB) consulting placement stats. In 2024, Fuqua placed 70 graduates into MBB consulting jobs. Meaning of the 108 graduates who accepted consulting jobs, 70 (65%) accepted jobs at the MBB firms. So if your primary goal is to maximize your chance for landing a top MBB consulting job, Fuqua has an edge over Kenan Flagler. Having said this, Kenan Flagler does place 21% into consulting so you clearly can land a consulting job from Kenan Flagler as well.

Scholarship: You have a $150k scholarship to Kenan Flagler vs a $80k scholarship at Fuqua. Meaning, there is likely at least a $70k difference in price. (Note: you should compare your total net cost of attending both program to see if the difference is more or less than $70k.). So you would clearly save money in the short term by attending Kenan Flagler vs attending Fuqua.

Basically, if maximizing your chances of landing a top consulting job at MBB is your primary consideration, then go to Fuqua. While you would pay more, you can finance it via student loans and repay these loans with your post MBA consulting career. On the other hand, if minimizing tuition cost is a key factor for you and if you are interested in a consulting job but you are more open to which consulting firm you work with, then Kenan Flagler would be a nice option. After all, you could clearly land a consulting job from Kenan Flagler as well.

Another key consideration. Do you have a personal preference between Kenan Flagler or Fuqua? If you have not done so already, I encourage you to visit these programs and speak with current students to help you decide. (Or speak with current students virtually if you can't make it to campus.)
