Trump’s Immigrant Ban Creates Turmoil for MBA Students Across the Country
At least one was detained for hours at JFK Airport in New York before being released. Many have concerns about family members who may not be able to attend graduation ceremonies in the spring. Others must consider foregoing upcoming international school-related trips for fear they won’t be allowed back in. In these ways and many others, President Donald Trump’s initial days in office have left countless MBA students reeling. At issue is the hugely controversial executive order signed by Trump on Friday (Jan. 27) temporarily banning citizens from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia from entering the country, suspending new refugee admissions for the next 120 days and indefinitely banning refugees from Syria. That all countries in question are predominantly Muslim and that the order additionally offers priority to Christian refugees has led many to view the action as a Muslim ban, though the Trump administration denies this. Rotman Launches Canadian Graduate Women in Management Conference
Tomorrow, February 1st, female graduate business students and industry leaders from across Canada will have a chance to come together and discuss the most pressing matters facing the business community as part of the inaugural Canadian Graduate Women in Management Conference. Organized by the Rotman Women in Management Association (WIMA) and hosted by the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, the conference will focus around the theme of “Men as Allies and the Parity Proposition,” highlighting the role of gender inclusivity in expanding the discourse on gender equity. MIT, CBS Startup Addresses Sanitation at Refugee Camps

INSEAD Tops Financial Times Global MBA Rankings for Second Year Running
INSEAD liked making it to the top of the Financial Times Global MBA rankings last year so much that it decided to stick around for another first-place showing. Johnson $150 M Gift Renames Cornell College of Business
Celebrating a relationship that spans four generations, SC Johnson Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson has endowed $150 million to the Cornell University College of Business network of schools. By far the largest gift in the school's history, it is indeed among the largest gifts ever to a leading business school. Stanford Graduate School of Business received an equivalent $150 million gift in 2011, and David Booth's 2008 naming gift to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business currently holds the record at $300 million. Although Stephen Ross, for whom the University of Michigan Ross School of Business is named, gave $200 million, it was spread across two different donations in 2004 and 2013. Read more

Darden Future Year Admissions Application Now Live
The University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business announced earlier this week that the application for its Future Year Admissions Program is now live. In its inaugural year, this program is geared toward undergraduate students in their final year of study or students who have gone on directly from college into a fifth-year master’s program. Applicants can apply while they are still in school and then opt to defer admission to Darden by between two and four years while they gain work experience. That women make up only seven percent of partners at the leading 100 venture capital firms wasn’t a deterrent for UC Berkeley Haas School of Business MBA student Kira Noodleman, it was a challenge. Shuffle of Leadership at Spain’s IE Business School
To fill the void created when longstanding Dean Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño was named executive president of IE University, Spain’s IE Business School today announced that Martin Boehm will serve as its new dean. Boehm, an expert in teaching innovation, is no stranger to IE. Serving as dean of programs for the past four years, he first joined IE in 2006.
