I am an officer in the Navy working as a Nuclear Power School Instructor teaching the fundamentals of nuclear theory to future reactor operators. Background in Chemical Engineering from mediocre a public school. First generation, black college grad with extracurriculars from college that include student government & Vice President of Chem E Club. Currently volunteering at the local Big Brother Big Sister chapter. Growth in workplace includes being responsible for a division of 21 instructors and in charge of several collateral duties. Interested in Consulting (Projects focused on Energy/Education would align well with current skillset) for the exposure to different industries and professional development. I intend on applying through MLT for the networking opportunites + early recruiting.

You should be targeting the best programs. Are you applying next season? Super numbers, difficult major. Sounds like strong military experience, etc. (0)

Currently, the plan is to leverage the client relations I'd build during my time in a consulting and go into a Biz Ops/Strategy role post-consulting. I don't expect WLB to be ideal during consulting and would like to eventually optimize towards a role that is better suited towards being able to spend time with family. Alternatively, I've been keeping my eye out for Pre-MBA internships and skill-bridges in the finance space that target veterans, and I am entertaining the idea of PE/VE. Do you think if I'm able to land H/S/W, I could have a shot at breaking into PE/VE or is the lack of finance background too much of an obstacle? (1)
