Indian Male, 30 Years, Identify as a part of LGBTQ+ (out to everyone if that matters), First Gen. Grew up in India, currently in Canada, graduated with Master's in Human Resources. (Was enrolled in MPH, changed to HR cos wanted to work in consultancy/corporate)

Undergrad: Dentist - 3.25 /4.0 GPA (WES completed)

GRE: 310 (157V/153Q) Just appeared for it today. Waiting for AWA.

Master in HR - From a Canadian University. 3.45/4.0 GPA

Work Experiences:

1 year internship after UG at a hospital within the college (this was part of my course which was 5 years)
1 year work experience helping my dad with family business
3.5 years experience in HR ( including 3 months of internship while pursuing post grad. 1.5 years with a small family owned business, recently completed 2 years with a Fortune 200 in HR )
Also helped 2 of my professors who were pursuing their PhDs as an RA while in grad school.
Worked part time in a couple of dental clinics while in India
Almost always had 2 jobs whenever I could while in Canada to pay for tuition.
Extracurriculars:

Started an lgbtq+ while in grad school had about 8 people in it
Organized several dental camps while in UG, organized several Polio vaccination camps
Volunteered at an lgbtq non profit for 2 years (was awarded volunteer of the month, also was selected for an interview on national tv)
Volunteered at a hospital for 2 years
Volunteer at work whenever
Was selected for a UN conference among 100's of students
Semifinalist for a national song writing competition
Volunteered at a queer film fest one summer

The challenges you’ll face will include a low GRE score, for top programs, and it also looks like your post MBA goals are not well defined. It would be good to know more about your switch from dentistry to HR, and how the MBA is the next step along your journey. I’m sure your personal story is strong, just needs a strong professional story to compliment. (1)

dreamerjd Likes Earned: 2 Hi Alex, Thank you for your feedback, really appreciate it. Yes, my GRE score is low indeed. I was planning to apply for Fall '22 but now I am not sure. Im hoping to retake the test. The major reason for career switch was to get in to consulting. But coming from a smaller & lesser known school, I couldn't get in yet. My post MBA goal is to get in consulting and eventually work in a start up to gain experience to start my own company. But I'll need to put it together in a more cohesive format. (0)

Likes Earned: 1226 Agree that the GRE is currently going to be a limiting factor for you, especially as you still fall into an ORM group as an Indian male (despite arguably being part of a URM group as LGBTQ+). Grades in your master's program in Canada seem strong, and per Alex's comment, if you can clearly explain your transition from dentistry to HR to the target in strategy consulting, that will help. Frankly, for many of the schools on your list, you should be targeting 325+, but getting past the 320 mark would be a good start. Best of luck!
