Hello! I come from a top 50 undergrad school, and my GPA suffered early in college which resulted in a 2.9 overall GPA. I have taken 2 classes for credit and received As to add as a supplement. I completed a leadership rotational program at a top tech company in the US. I have gotten a promotion every year since starting (with some awards). I also volunteer weekly with UR minorities in a mentorship capacity. Post-MBA I would like to work in marketing leadership at a tech company. I am looking for advise regarding my target schools.Am I looking at the right range of schools? I will be applying round 1 next year.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1677 Impact at work will be important, the awards and promotions will help. Impact outside of work is also important, so keep that up. Taking the classes is a good step. May be worth complimenting that with MBA Math or HBS CORe. Super GMAT shows you’re smart. I’d include 2 M7, 2 Top 16, plus Tepper +1 top 20, for Round 1. (1)

One other question- I meet the requirements to apply through the consortium. Do you recommend doing so for member schools? If it hurts my chances in any way, I would like to apply separately. grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1245 No harm in applying via the Consortium for schools that belong. Are you a URM? If so, that will make you a bit more 'in demand' in the pool, which is great news (and could help counter the GPA issue a bit). I'm confident your GMAT score (and alternative transcript) will go a long way towards easing the admissions teams' fears too. I presume you have a nice upward trend with your GPA as well? Was your major business or tech oriented, or more qualitative? Best of luck and thanks for your post!

I am a minority women (Asian, not considered URM in bschool) but volunteer heavily with an organization that supports URMs getting into business/tech. I have an upward trend every year with the GPA. I was a business major in undergrad. I appreciate all the help. Please let me know if you have any other advice on combatting a low GPA. (1)
