Love the podcast! Please feature me! I've listened to many wire taps and I can't remember listening to a candidate with the amount of work experience I have.
Profile: 31 year old, white male living in southern California. GRE 327 (165Q/162V). Planned to apply starting in R1 this year but was unable to due to family tragedy earlier in year. All school applications will be submitted in R2. Undergrad: Attended a large top 75 state school my freshman year of college, earned a 4.0 GPA, and transferred to a top 20 private school for the remainder of my undergrad education. Graduated with a double major in finance and international business, cum laude. Cumulative GPA of 3.67 when averaging GPA from both Schools. Very engaged as undergraduate student: walk-on varsity athlete, new student orientation adviser (helping other transfer students assimilate to another environment), tour guide, and club founder/president. I have interviewed for the school's undergraduate admissions since my graduation in 2010. Work experience: CFA charter received in 2018. Most work experience has been focused on investment operations and product management across multiple asset classes: hedge funds, private equity, traditional equity and fixed income. Current responsibilities are developing/scaling a new investment product for a large asset manager as well as portfolio construction and oversight of over $100 million in client assets. Career goals are to work as an investment research analyst and then as a portfolio manager for a mutual fund or separate account. Focus will be on fixed income investment managers but will also look at analyst roles as alternative asset managers/distressed debt/special situations. Long term career goal is to manage my own investment fund. Extracurricular activities: endurance athletics and triathlon (qualified to race triathlon professionally several years ago but declined in order to focus more on career development), raised over $20,000 for charitable foundations, lead and plan community action days at current employer, works directly with HR at current firm to develop content on how charitable work can assist in developing professional leadership skills. Weaknesses: older than majority of candidates (would like to hear how candidates similar to me have addressed this aspect), took GRE instead of GMAT since it was a better suited test for me (is this an issue for my kind of profile?). Would love to hear any thoughts on how to best position my essays and profile. Thank you!!
