I majored in English at a small liberal arts college (think Vassar, Wesleyan, Bowdoin). Given my major I mostly took writing-heavy classes, but I also took a half-dozen math and computer science courses. I mention that in case it’s helpful for proving my quant ability. I started at my current place of work, a national homebuilding company, right after graduation and have been there for 3.5 years, working in marketing. In that time I've gotten two promotions and now manage a team of three, but the company is certainly not an MBA feeder. Maybe I can frame myself as coming from a unique industry? I would love to get anyone’s thoughts on that.
As for extracurriculars, outside of work I run an online publication about podcasts. The site is published in partnership with a somewhat well known literary organization and receives about 75,000 visits a month. We also publish a weekly newsletter which has a little over 5,000 subscribers. My obsession with podcasts is how I came across the Clear Admit podcast, which is truly the one show I never miss an episode of — keep up the great work, Alex and Graham!
Now, for my career goals, I think I’ll need to get more specific once I’m putting together my applications, but broadly I’d like to use an MBA to get out of marketing and into finance, consulting, or general management, so that I can eventually return to a senior leadership role in the homebuilding industry. Does that sound too far-fetched? Are my schools within range? Lastly, I plan to re-take the GMAT a couple more times. Curious to hear what people think and thank you in advance!
