Planning to apply to dual MBA/MPP programs because I truly believe that the public and social sectors deserve the expertise and capacity of top MBA graduates too.
Graduated from top-15 private university.
Nontraditional - majored in classical piano and public policy (education).
I plan to take the GRE at the end of this month to bump up a few points. However, I took stats, macro and micro, public finance, and several development economics courses during college to complete my public policy degree...I just got rusty teaching English to high schoolers.

Your undergrad and career to date will help differentiate your candidacy from the more traditional profile, which is good. Your challenge will be to show that the quality of your experiences, and your impact, are strong, relative to more traditional candidates. Are you involved in additional activities, outside of work? Do you have more specifics about your goals, especially your long term goal? Will discuss on Wire Taps, but it will be in about 2-3 weeks, unfortunately. (0)

msu8244 Likes Earned: 4 Additional context: The program I'm in at the state DOE is a 2-year public management fellowship through the Governor's office, so it has provided me with unique leadership experience. I've continued my relationship with schools and students by being a transition mentor for first-generation college students benefitting from the state-funded college grant program, and I'm active with the TFA alumni network in my community. I want to build managerial expertise in the social sector - many of my state's agencies have worked with Bridgespan, Deloitte, and KPMG to do this and it's rare to find a) people on the consulting side with public sector experience and b) people on the public sector side with meaningful business experience. Hoping to fill that knowledge gap, and I can't get to a place like Bridgespan without the MBA or MPP with private sector experience. (0)
