INSEAD Tops Financial Times Global MBA Rankings for Second Year Running
INSEAD liked making it to the top of the Financial Times Global MBA rankings last year so much that it decided to stick around for another first-place showing. Darden Future Year Admissions Application Now Live
The University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business announced earlier this week that the application for its Future Year Admissions Program is now live. In its inaugural year, this program is geared toward undergraduate students in their final year of study or students who have gone on directly from college into a fifth-year master’s program. Applicants can apply while they are still in school and then opt to defer admission to Darden by between two and four years while they gain work experience. Fridays from the Frontline: A Haasie Leans In to Increase Ranks of Women in Venture Capital
That women make up only seven percent of partners at the leading 100 venture capital firms wasn’t a deterrent for UC Berkeley Haas School of Business MBA student Kira Noodleman, it was a challenge. Who knew there was an “intelligent way of failing”? According to Columbia Business School Professor Rita McGrath, there is indeed—and put into practice it can actually make organizations stronger. Shuffle of Leadership at Spain’s IE Business School
To fill the void created when longstanding Dean Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño was named executive president of IE University, Spain’s IE Business School today announced that Martin Boehm will serve as its new dean. Boehm, an expert in teaching innovation, is no stranger to IE. Serving as dean of programs for the past four years, he first joined IE in 2006. HBS Ups the Ante for Its Annual New Venture Competition: $300,000 in Prizes to Be Won
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of its New Venture Competition (NVC), the Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship at Harvard Business School (HBS) has announced that prizes for the annual entrepreneurial venture contest will exceed $300,000 across the three competition tracks. In each—the student business track, student social enterprise track and alumni track—a grand prize of $75,000 will go to the winning team—up from the $50,000 prize awarded in past years. Oxford’s Saïd Business School Joins Global Network for Advanced Management
In case you missed it, Oxford University’s Saïd Business School joined the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) earlier this month. Calling itself “the leading network of top business schools committed to educating global leaders,” the GNAM was founded by Yale School of Management Dean Edward Snyder in 2012. It counts as its members eight schools in Europe, nine in Asian and the Pacific Islands, five in the Middle East and Africa and seven in the Americas. Employer MBA Hiring Projections Suggest It’s a Great Time to Go to Business School
If you’re growing weary of all the MBA data forms and essays and interviews and anxiety—keep your eyes on the prize! That light at the end of the tunnel? Well, a recent employer poll from the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) suggests it just keeps getting brighter. MIT Sloan 2016 Employment Report Reveals Slightly Slipping Salaries
MIT Sloan School of Management late last week released its 2016 MBA Employment Report, revealing slightly slipping salaries year over year and slightly lower percentages of graduates heading into consulting and technology than in prior years. The pharmaceutical/healthcare industry drew the third largest percentage of graduates—5.8 percent—knocking investment banking out of the top three for the first time—perhaps ever. Investment banks drew just 4.7 percent of the 2016 class, down from 6.1 percent last year, 6.8 percent in 2014 and 8.1 in 2013.   Read more

Stanford Ignite Program Celebrates 10 Years, With No Signs of Slowing
The final weeks in December for many mean last-minute gift shopping, overindulgence with friends and family, a winding down of work and the culmination of another year. UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Top 5 Reasons to Apply for Jobs During the Holidays

Johnson Welcomes Vets as Part of Annual Military Preview Event
With an ever-increasing enrollment of military veterans at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, the school recently welcomed a new group of distinguished prospective applicants on campus. Johnson hosted 30 military veterans last month, part of its annual Military Preview event held each year on or close to Veteran’s Day. Fridays from the Frontline: Navigating Complex MBA Decision-Making Process
Pierre Girard, a 2016 graduate of the Weekend MBA program at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, shares his tips for the complex decision-making process that can accompany choosing to pursue an MBA. For Girard, a father to two small children who planned to continue working while getting his MBA, a part-time MBA program was the best way to meet all of his goals. And some of his tips—such as hiring a maid if your budget allows it—seem perhaps less geared toward traditional full-time MBA students than others. But at its core, the bulk of Girard’s advice is applicable no matter what kind of MBA degree you’re planning to pursue. The support of your network, setting realistic expectations about your schedule, and knowing how to prioritize are just as critical for full-time, two-year MBA students as they are for full-time employees who are working toward their MBA in the evenings or on the weekends. Tech Hires Jump at Kellogg, 2016 MBA Employment Report Reveals
‘Tis the season for MBA employment reports, and one of the latest schools to share details about how its most recent class of graduates fared in their quest for jobs is Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. Released in its entirety last week, the report shows a surge of graduates heading off toward technology firms—22 percent of the class, up from 15 percent last year. “I do think the tech story jumps out,” says Liza Kirkpatrick, director of career management for the full-time MBA program. “But we really are very proud of this year’s employment outcomes overall.” She went on to cite the fact that 96 percent of students received an offer within three months of graduation, up slightly from 95 percent the year before. The median base salary was $125,000, up $2,000 from the year before. Read more
