According to Times Higher Education, HEC Paris has produced the most CEOs of Fortune Global 500 companies. This is appealing to students who both want to lead major businesses, as well as those who want to create their own legacies. 2018 Financial Times Ranking of Top European Business Schools

The 2018 Financial Times ranking of top European business schools was just released. After an in-depth review of schools across Europe, FT completed its list of the 95 schools including 25 in France and 22 in the UK, seven in Germany, and a handful in all other countries. When looking at this ranking, it’s important to pay attention to the methodology and what it indicates. INSEAD Tops Bloomberg Businessweek Ranking of International MBA Programs

INSEAD pushed aside London Business School (LBS) to take the top spot in Bloomberg Businessweek’s annual ranking of MBA programs outside the United States, published yesterday. LBS slipped to second, followed by Spain’s IESE Business School, Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, and Switzerland’s International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in that order. Truly Global Business Education: 5 Leading Schools on 4 Continents Launch 6 New Global Dual Degrees

This fall, five top business schools will launch a portfolio of global dual-degree programs allowing students to earn two master’s degrees at two top business schools in two different countries over two years. The initiative is part of the M2M program led by the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), which seeks to provide future leaders with a global learning experience. The five participating schools are all members of GNAM and include the Yale School of Management (Yale SOM), HEC Paris, FGV Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School (HKUST), and the Sauder School of Business University of British Columbia. Which Business Schools Produced the Most Unicorn Founders

Billion-dollar startups, affectionately coined “unicorns,” have become a benchmark that business schools around the world use to boast overall success. But which business schools actually produce the most successful startup founders? Earlier this year, U.K. software research firm Sage compiled data on billion-dollar startups, which also included the schools from which company founders graduated. The research, unsurprisingly, found two business schools standing taller than the rest of the competition: Harvard Business School (HBS) and Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Anxiety Persists for International MBA Students Despite Appellate Court’s Rebuke of Immigration Ban

Last night, a three-member panel of judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit refused the Trump administration’s call to reinstate a ban barring the entry of all refugees and visitors from seven predominantly Muslim countries into the United States. Although the case could still advance to the Supreme Court, yesterday’s ruling means that, for now, the executive order signed by President Donald Trump two weeks ago remains unenforceable. That’s good news for international students from the affected countries, some of whom were detained at airports attempting to return to campus from overseas travel, others of whom were forced to cancel plans to leave the United States for fear they might not be allowed back in. Oxford’s Saïd Business School Joins Global Network for Advanced Management

In case you missed it, Oxford University’s Saïd Business School joined the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) earlier this month. Calling itself “the leading network of top business schools committed to educating global leaders,” the GNAM was founded by Yale School of Management Dean Edward Snyder in 2012. It counts as its members eight schools in Europe, nine in Asian and the Pacific Islands, five in the Middle East and Africa and seven in the Americas. Chicago Booth Remains Atop Economist Ranking Amid Drastic Fluctuations by Other Schools

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business claimed bragging rights for the fifth year in a row as it was once again crowned the top full-time MBA program in the world by the Economist, which published its annual global ranking of MBA programs yesterday. INSEAD Knocks HBS from Top Spot in Financial Times 2016 Global MBA Rankings

INSEAD jumped three spots to claim No. 1 in the Financial Times 2016 Global MBA rankings, released today, knocking reigning Harvard Business School (HBS) to No. 2. The global business school—which features campuses in France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi—has been on an upward trajectory over the past few years, sidling from sixth to fifth to fourth, but this year marks the first time it has claimed the top spot. Incidentally, it’s also the first one-year MBA program to ever do so. HBS, for its part, held steady at No. 1 each of the past three years and has taken top honors six times since the FT’s rankings debuted in 1999. HBS wasn’t the only school displaced by INSEAD’s upward climb. London Business School (LBS) was knocked back down to third from the second-place spot it claimed last year. The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania also backslid a spot, to fourth. And Stanford Graduate School of Business, which shared fourth with INSEAD last year, fell to fifth. Read more

HEC Paris Names New MBA Program Dean

HEC Paris will have a new dean of its MBA program effective January 1, 2016, the school announced yesterday. HEC General Director Peter Todd has named Andrea Masini as the school’s next dean. Masini succeeds Bernard Garrette, whose five-year term concludes on December 31st. Andrea Masini, HEC Paris's new dean Masini joined HEC’s faculty in September 2010 from London Business School. Since then, he has taught in both the MBA and PhD programs and trained executives and managers as part of HEC’s Executive Education programs. He has also provided regular consulting to private and public organizations on projects related to the optimization of process, information systems and technological innovation. Read more

HEC Paris MBA Student Among Those Killed in Paris Terrorist Attacks

A 29-year-old HEC Paris MBA student from Spain was among those killed in the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday. Juan Alberto González Garrido died in the Bataclan concert venue, where he was attending a blues rock performance with his wife. His wife escaped, but 88 others also died in the Bataclan massacre, the deadliest of a series of coordinated attacks across Paris that killed 129 and wounded more than 400. “Our thoughts are with the friends and relatives of HEC Paris MBA student Juan Garrido in these dire circumstances,” former HEC Paris Dean Bernard Garrette tweeted on Saturday. Deputy Prime Minister of Spain Soraya Saénz de Santamaría confirmed Garrido’s death in an article in El Mundo on Saturday. Read more
